Step Six From Sabotage to Success: Don’t Give Up

Persistence and Determination Pay Off

Persistence and Determination Pay Off

The sixth step From Sabotage to Success is Quitting is the Only Way to Fail. Change can sometimes seem incredibly slow but we are constantly changing whether we see it or not.

Despite outside appearances, there is no such thing as an overnight success. There is no such thing as instant change. Think about how many years you’ve had the particular problem you are trying to solve and compare that to how long you’ve been working on changing it. Many of us give up out of impatience or feelings of defeat even though success and victory are right around the corner.

We live in a society with a quick fix mentality. T.V. fosters addict mentality with all of its instant cures. TV dinners, get rich quick plans, instant oatmeal, pharmacuetical and over the counter drugs, stomach stapling, lap bands and skin products that offer instant results are just a few examples. Yet quick fixes rarely offer permanent change. When you are trying to create deep, lasting change it requires persistence and patience.

If you’ve lived your entire life thinking negative or feeling inferior or being punished for not being good enough, that’s the language you know and relate to. So in a sense, when you decide to change your past programming and strive for positive change, it’s like you are trying to learn a new language.

To be successful, you must reinforce your new language daily. You must read books, listen to CD’s and practice your new language out loud and silently. You need to immerse yourself in this new language daily. You will forget what you’ve learned unless you apply it.

Here are some ways to keep yourself immersed in your new language:
• Goal group: Start a group with your friends and make weekly commitments to work towards new changes.

• Visualization board: Cut out pictures and words that remind you of your desired end result and look at them daily.

• Index cards: Write your affirmation on an index card and post it where you’ll see it daily.

• Become a teacher: Share what you’ve learned with others put yourself in a position where you’re constantly reinforcing what you’ve learned and striving to learn more.

• Write down successes: Write down your accomplishments daily and go back over them when you’re discouraged.

You will learn how to do all this and more in the book, From Sabotage to Success and the workshop series by the same name. Get the tools and support you need to break free from old, outmoded, limiting mindsets so you can truly learn how to live free from self-sabotage.
