This morning at Agape Toastmasters advanced member, Mr. Bruce Gordon talked about vision. He used three pairs of glasses to illustrate past, present and future vision. He said that past, present and future vision each have an inherent limitation, but seeing all three versions at once can be mind-expanding.
He quoted a Biblical passage from Proverbs 29:18 and it really caught my ear.
18Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18, King James Version)
It reminded me of some of the recent podcasts I’ve been doing about visualization. It also reminded me of vision boards, self-fulfilling scrapbooks, and basically creating your life based on the choices you make.
As a result of listening to speeches like this and getting support from fellow Toastmasters, I am reminded that I am making up life as I go along. I get to choose how I want things to turn out. That doesn’t mean it will always happen exactly the way I plan, but its still my choice to have a preference. It’s to my benefit to acknowledge the power to choose and use my creative mind constructively.
