Enjoying the Journey towards my OWN Show

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Today I submitted my audition video at Oprah.com. It was approximately 10 days ago that I learned she was having an open casting call and accepting video submissions from people who want their own T.V. Talk Show. The mental and emotional journey I’ve been on has been awe-inspiring and “worth the trip.”

I am so touched by some of the comments my students made about my classes on this video. They inspired me to want to spread my work to a larger audience (even though in some ways, this is scary). I can’t do it without your help. Please go to my Oprah.com page and vote for me today. Thank you.

Oprah Talks to Geneen Roth, Faces Body Image Issues

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

I was over at Claire Mysko’s blog reading about Oprah and Geneen Roth. It seems that Oprah has had a revelation about her body image and weight issues and she is aware that her overeating is tied to childhood abuse that she’s been trying to “push down” with food.

I enjoyed the article and I added the following comments over at her blog. I invite you to comment here about your experiences with weight and body image.

Here’s what I wrote on Claire Mysko’s blog:

Great article and interesting comments. I quit dieting many years ago and even still it took time to unravel all the body image issues.

What I’m noticing now is that since I spent so many years of my life dieting and buying food based on caloric and fat content , I am nearly inept when it comes to grocery shopping or meal planning.

Eating what I ‘wanted’ was originally things like Pizza, Mocha’s, bread, fast food etc. After a while, my body was not happy with those choices and though I loved the way fruits and vegetables felt in my body, I had to combat almost a lifetime of rebellion against vegetables and thinking of them as “diet” food and describing them as “gross” and “disgusting”.

Donate Your WeightI think I’m making progress. I just got back from Trader Joe’s and my basket was filled with things to satisfy my mind and my body. There were no snack items in my cart, no dessert items. Mainly it was things that taste good and that also feel good in my body.

Who We Are is One With Nature

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

I went on a road trip with my husband today. Being out in nature helped me to remember who I really am: Spirit in a body. I liked hearing this song We Fight, We Love by Q-Tip while driving the mountain roads because the best way for me to connect with my inner wisdom is when I’m out on the road, surrounded by Mother Nature and listening to music.

Enjoy the video, I hope it makes you feel like you’re on an escape from your worries for a minute. Maybe it’s time for you to go on your own getaway? We went to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. It is an easy day trip for anyone in Southern California to take. The fee to get in the Poppy Reserve is $8.00 per car.

I put some of the lyrics to We Fight We Love below if you’d like to sing along.

And it, and it begins, he’s off the ball
He left his friends, he ain’t home no more
He’s in a place, that’s far away
Where he can’t understand what they say
They say salaam, they carry bombs
Into crowded places, and cause alarm
You’re the infidel who’s uninvited
But really an American boy who’s slighted
It ain’t your fault, you want identity
So you join this big fraternity
You get to travel the world, its cheaper than college
And you get guns and you get knowledge
Lookin’ for your soul, and WMD’s
You can’t find nothing, cause its empty
You got your gun, and he’s your friend
And he’s your man, until the end
We fight, we love

Chorus: Raphael Saadiq
We fight and love so much
Sometimes I get confused of who we are
Maybe if we just stop and chat a
bit we’ll find out who we are

Notes from the Eye of the Transformational Tornado

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

In the past two months I’ve undergone a radical transformation of my belief system.

I have immersed myself deep into personal development. My schedule includes a weekly Master Mind meeting, weekly meetings at Agape Toastmasters, bi-weekly women’s support group at church, Healing School on Wednesday nights with Rev. Ahman and a weekly appearance on The Sheri and Erin Show.

I am the instructor of three college classes: Introduction to Addictive Behaviors, Stress Management for the Helping Professional and Helping and Listening Skills. On a personal level I follow the daily A Course in Miracles lessons and often read from The Bible, the Science of Mind textbook, Catherine Ponder books and Think and Grow Rich.

I am constantly surrounded by teachings about the mind.

This immersion has been beneficial in many ways. I have overcome many hardships and I’ve accomplished goals that I never dreamed possible. But there was one area I was not willing to touch. I tried desperately for most of my life to avoid the deepest emotional issues. I told myself it “didn’t matter” and it was “in the past.”

About 2 years ago, when I had my own personal business and financial crisis, it was obvious that I had no choice but to go deep if I wanted to reclaim my life.

Today I was sitting at a coffee shop and this is what I wrote. Perhaps you can relate:

“Somehow this feels like a big day even though technically “nothing” is happening. It’s 12:17 and the lunch crowd is gathering. I notice I’m afraid of dying rather than exhilarated to be alive. I begin to switch my course gracefully because it seems too drastic to do it suddenly. It seems I truly will die if I try – if only from the shock. My system is slowly adjusting to 2010, to being 44, to being responsible for my life. To growing up. I’m not sure where I was before. Sometimes 1967, other times 1986 or 1992. In the Hell of the past. Very rarely right here, right now.

I’m beginning to see the possibilities. This 2010 world has some pretty cool advantages.

An adventurer could truly seize these opportunities.

I could be an adventurer.

It is entirely up to me.

A few of the tools I’ve used in my journey to awakening include Holosynch, EFT and hypnosis. Did you get your free Create the Life You Want hypnosis MP3 yet? If not, click here.

Habits, Addictions and Hungry Ghosts on Blog Talk Radio

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I am currently reading a new book titled In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Mate, MD. Mate is a physician to severely addicted clients in the Downtown Eastside section of Vancouver Canada at the Portland Hotel.

On March 25, I will have the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Mate about addiction on The Sheri and Erin Show. Between now and then, I have to try and get clear on exactly what aspect of his work I want to know about most. I’m currently on page 328 of his his 416 page book and I’ve already read numerous things I’m interested in talking about with him. As a person who has struggled with addiction and worked with recovering addicts, I’m pleased to see that someone is bold enough to write holistically and compassionately about addiction. My hope is that this book gets talked about and utilized in treatment circles worldwide.

According to Mate’s book and the references he’s cited, addiction is very often tied to childhood abuse and neglect. When a young child experiences abuse or neglect during her developing years, it creates a lot of stress on her growing nervous system and has a profound effect on brain development. Chemicals that the body automatically produces when there is a strong mother/infant bond are very pleasurable; natures way of making sure the developing child gets the chemicals she needs to handle stress later in life. If those chemical reactions are absent in developing years, the child may grow into an adult who looks for this pleasure in other ways. According to brain research, the chemical reaction of opiates such as heroin is very similar to the chemical reaction of Oxytocin, a natural brain chemical that is released when the mother and child form a bond. This chemical is released as a result of bonding experiences such as loving eye contact, nurturing, encouragement and nursing.

Mate writes about how the “War on Drugs” has been a massive failure. Rather than providing treatment and solutions for those who suffer from addiction the “war” has turned addicts into criminals and made it more difficult from them to seek the help they need.

As a society, we have also adopted a moralistic, right/wrong view of addicts. Rather than see them as abused people, looking for relief from insurmountable emotional pain, we have chosen to see them as weak, flawed and immoral. Once again an attitude that makes treatment and recovery difficult to attain.

Mate believes that some addicts have experienced severe emotional pain and developmental deficits which have permanently impacted their brain chemistry. This makes it unreasonable to expect 100% abstinence for 100% of people who battle addictions. He believes in harm reduction, giving addicts safe ways to use drugs in a controlled environment for those who cannot or will not maintain complete abstinence.

Punishment and condemnation is counter-productive to true recovery. If addiction is significantly related to childhood abuse and neglect, the addict has endured more than his fair share of condemnation and punishment. No doubt, he has internalized this punishment and condemnation and carries it with him all day long. If punishment and condemnation worked, we never would have needed a War on Drugs.

So, there are a few of the points that Dr. Mate covers in his book. What do you think is most important for me to ask? What do you want to ask him? Do you have strong views for or against any of the points he’s made? Make a comment today and if we get it before Thursday, we’ll see if we can add it to our show.

Clear the Junk Out of Your “Spiritual Basement” with Cynthia Lamb Thursday on Blog Talk Radio

Friday, January 15th, 2010

cynthialambJoin Sheri and Erin on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon PST (2:00 EST) as they interview spiritual counselor Cynthia Lamb about how to move out of a fear-based “lack” consciousness and into a consciousness of “prosperity” based on joy and love.

After experiencing an Awakening at the age of 18, Cynthia has spent the last 20 years of her life learning how to integrate her new awareness, with her past beliefs. She has studied this through the process of trial and error-which she freely admits was heavy on the error portion!

With the ability to see and observe her own irrationality, Cynthia embarked on a journey to clear and update her Emotional, Mental, and Physical Bodies to reflect her highest level of Truth. She is a living example of the idea that it is absolutely possible to achieve Spiritual Integration, live authentically in alignment with the will of our soul, and to our individual ability to create a transformed life.

Cynthia is certified to do healings and she has expertise working with many types of energies. However, she observed that whenever she “did” anything “for” or “to” a client’s energy field, that client would experience a very short-term healing. From these episodes, Cynthia began to understand and believe in order to achieve lasting, life-transforming healing, and integration, there needed to be a 100% dedication on behalf of the client to do the “inside” work of clearing old emotional wounds.

Cynthia began in a sense, to assist clients with “cleaning out their Spiritual Basements”. Today she supports her client’s process by standing on the foundational energies of Truth, Love, and Compassion. Cynthia empowers people who are ready to take 100% responsibility for their lives and move out of fear and into the boundless Joy and Freedom of the Loving Paradigm!
