Oprah Talks to Geneen Roth, Faces Body Image Issues

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

I was over at Claire Mysko’s blog reading about Oprah and Geneen Roth. It seems that Oprah has had a revelation about her body image and weight issues and she is aware that her overeating is tied to childhood abuse that she’s been trying to “push down” with food.

I enjoyed the article and I added the following comments over at her blog. I invite you to comment here about your experiences with weight and body image.

Here’s what I wrote on Claire Mysko’s blog:

Great article and interesting comments. I quit dieting many years ago and even still it took time to unravel all the body image issues.

What I’m noticing now is that since I spent so many years of my life dieting and buying food based on caloric and fat content , I am nearly inept when it comes to grocery shopping or meal planning.

Eating what I ‘wanted’ was originally things like Pizza, Mocha’s, bread, fast food etc. After a while, my body was not happy with those choices and though I loved the way fruits and vegetables felt in my body, I had to combat almost a lifetime of rebellion against vegetables and thinking of them as “diet” food and describing them as “gross” and “disgusting”.

Donate Your WeightI think I’m making progress. I just got back from Trader Joe’s and my basket was filled with things to satisfy my mind and my body. There were no snack items in my cart, no dessert items. Mainly it was things that taste good and that also feel good in my body.

Galvanize Your Mind Now – Pilot on You Tube

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

First there was a Flip Video camera, given to someone like me who loves gadgets, has an idea a minute and some time off for the holidays. Second there is the resulting video. In less than two minutes I will list seven things that Galvanize My Mind. When you galvanize your mind it becomes fun and easy to create new habits. Here’s my list for the past week:

1. Strolling the streets of Bluff Park with my iPod
2. Going to the farmer’s market
3. Snuggling with my cat
4. Working out on the bluff with Your Next Victory
5. Visualizing my ideal 2010 and beyond
6. Reading good Tweets
7. Watching Hello Ross on YouTube

This and more captured in my “not quite 2 minute” video. If you can’t see the video here, watch it on You Tube.

You’ll see me doing push-ups at the beach with a pink wig on and you’ll meet Fenix, my persian tabby cat. One of my favorite clips is “Boys on Bikes.” I was out strolling the sidewalks of Bluff Park in Long Beach with my Flip Video in hand and a group of about 10 young men on skateboards and bicycles rode by, it was pretty exciting. Some of us screamed in joy. Including me. It’s on video.

itunes_iconI practiced with using audio clips in the video. I sampled Galvanize by the Chemical Brothers, and Express Yourself By The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band. Songs like these and more can be found on the latest “Songs to Galvanize Your Mind” PDF. Free to all new blog subscribers today. Get it here.

At the end of this video I mention a Create the Life You Want free hypnosis MP3 download. You can get it at icreathabits.com

Eat Less, Make Leaving Food on Your Plate a New Habit

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Some of us have been clearing our plates habitually since childhood. Maybe we’re even doing it for altruistic reasons like saving starving children in Africa.

Problem is, it doesn’t work.

The children are still starving, the portions keep getting bigger and you are getting bigger too. In order to have a lifestyle of stress-free slimming, it is imperitive to eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re satisfied. This show will give you the support you need to stop dieting and start enjoying food and your body.

Make Breaking a Habit Fun and You’ll Be Successful

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Commuters in Odenplan, Stockholm were consistently taking the escalator instead of the stairs at the public transportation station. As part of an experiment, a crew of workers transformed the stairs into a piano keyboard, complete with sound. The result, 66% more people took the stairs instead of the escalator. The overall concept is that when you make change fun, people are more likely to embrace it.Donate Your Weight
