New Book from Caroline Myss/Hay House – “Defy Gravity”

Friday, September 25th, 2009

New York Times best-selling author Caroline Myss draws from her years as a medical intuitive to show that healing is not only physical; it is also a mystical phenomenon that transcends reason.

Her latest book Defy Gravity, is inspired by ordinary people who overcame a wide array of physical and psychological ailments—from rheumatoid arthritis to cancer—Caroline Myss dove into the works of the great mystics to gain a deeper understanding of healing’s spiritual underpinnings. Based on these studies, she demonstrates how conventional and holistic medicines often fall short in times of need. Both systems rely upon a logical approach to curing illness when there is nothing reasonable about the emotional, psychological, or spiritual influences behind any ailment.

“I adore Caroline Myss. She is a visionary teacher who can see beyond the boundaries of ordinary thought where you can heal any illness, you can channel grace, and you can live fearlessly.”
-Louise L. Hay

The book is available October 13. However, Hay House is offering product bundles in a wide range of price points for those who pre-order the book including a FREE workshop download immediately upon purchase. Order today.

Learning to Visualize – Relaxation is the Key

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

This show highlights the importance of self-care and relaxation as a precursor to using visualization effectively. While relaxed, you’re at a powerful point of attraction and choice. When you’re stressed, the mind is racing so fast that you might experience an “emotional hijack” and find yourself going off in a direction that’s counter-productive to your highest good. To listen, press the tiny “play” (>) arrow on the player below.

If you need help with relaxing your mind and clearing away mental clutter, I highly recommend Holosynch from Centerpointe Research Institute. It is hands-down the most effective way to decrease anxiety and gain control of your mind. You can get a free demo CD and check it out for yourself.

Rev Up Your MetabolismDuring the show Dr. Marjorie mentioned the Rev Up Your Metabolism visualization. This CD is available at Donate Your Weight.com.

When Affirmations Aren’t Working

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

This week I taught a class titled “What You Say is What You Get” which is step two of the Six Steps From Sabotage to Success.

In my book From Sabotage to Success, I warn against using affirmations as a “fix” or “cover up” for what IS (see page 89 – Keeping Things Realistic and page 90 – Affirmations and Avoidance). Since publishing the book, I’ve spent more and more time doing personal and professional research and I can’t emphasize strongly enough that affirmations alone will not work if there is emotional blockage or if there are subconscious beliefs that negate the affirmation.

It is important in the process of using affirmations to be honest about what IS and not to use affirmations as a way to “will” or “force” things to change. In fact, sometimes using affirmations will bring up subconscious material that needs to be dealt with before you can move forward (see page 94 – Using Affirmations as a Learning Tool). If you insist on “only thinking positive” or if you use affirmations to deny what IS you actually delay your results.

It takes a tremendous amount of mental and physical activity to keep the uncomfortable, subconscious matter below the conscious level. However, when you are able to acknowledge that it exists and take the steps necessary to clear it, you can be freer as a result. In some cases, you can free yourself from negative patterns permanently simply by being willing to face them. Running away keeps the “boogey man” alive, turning around and facing him puts the power back in your hands, where it belongs.

What’s been your experience with affirmations? Have you used them but came to the conclusion that they “don’t work”? Were you mindful of your emotional response to the affirmations? Were you doing the affirmations with a sense of stress or urgency or did you feel good about it and go with the flow? All of these factors and more will determine the success you have when using affirmations.

From Sabotage to Success by Sheri Zampelli To learn more about using affirmations to overcome self-sabotage, purchase the book From Sabotage to Success.

Here are some affirmations to help you combat resistance:

“Growing and changing is exciting, even if I have to look at some painful things inside me in order to do it.”

“When one door closes, another door opens. I know I can become more of who I am.”

“I am willing to drop old concepts when they no longer work for me.”

“I am willing to honestly look at the way I do things and say, ‘I don’t want to do that anymore.’ I am willing to change.”

“I am free from the limitations of the past. I am free to go forward.”

“I am willing to release the pattern within me that is creating this condition.”

“I transform fear and anxiety into excitement and enthusiasm, I look forward to charting new ground.”

Step Five From Sabotage to Success: To Thine Own Self Be True

Monday, May 25th, 2009

freedom_salvation_butterflyStep Five From Sabotage to Success is to Stop Settling and Start Living. Some of us have learned that who we really are is “not good enough” or that being true to ourselves is “selfish.” Others put their own need for approval over their personal needs as a way to “fit in.” Sometimes we get stuck in patterns and belief systems that are limited by or based on our past experience.

Breaking out of your comfort zone means being willing to see all possibilities, not just those that support your existing belief system. If you keep doing the same things over and over you will always get the same results.

Just for fun, try changing the things you “always” do and the things you “never” do. Sit in a new seat, eat at a new restaurant, order something you’ve never had before.

Try changing your perception. Imitate the beliefs of someone you admire and see what happens. The positive payoff for breaking out of your comfort zone is that you just might get the job you want or the relationship you want but regardless of the outcome you will probably experience a boost in your self-esteem from walking through fear and trying something new.

Here are some affirmations to help you feel comfortable with new changes:

“Growing and changing is exciting, even if I have to look at some painful things inside me in order to do it. I invite the opportunity to break free from my limiting past”

“All my changes are easy to make. When one door closes, another door opens. I know I can become more of who I am.”

“I am willing to drop old concepts when they no longer work for me. I am willing to honestly look at the way I do things and say, ‘I don’t want to do that anymore.’ I am willing to change.”

“I am free from the limitations of the past. I am free to go forward.”

“I now choose to believe it is becoming easier for me to make changes.”

“I am willing to release the pattern within me that is creating this condition.”

“I transform fear and anxiety into excitement and enthusiasm, I look forward to charting new ground.”

In the book, From Sabotage to Success and the workshop series by the same name, you will get the tools and support you need to break free from old, outmoded, limiting mindsets so you can truly learn how to Stop Settling and Start Living. For more information, read details below.

Six Steps From Sabotage to Success

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Do you feel uncomfortable with new changes? Have you lost the same 10 pounds over and over? Did you “accidentally” forget to set the alarm clock the night before you began your new job or the first day back to college? Have you pushed relationships out of your life and then wondered years later, “What ever happened to that wonderful person?”

What’s familiar is comfortable, even if it’s unhealthy or self-defeating. Therefore, it’s normal to resist change but that doesn’t mean we have to be victims and stay stuck in undesirable situations. The following Six Steps From Sabotage to Success can help you to begin accepting and maybe even embracing resistance. You can learn how to push through the resistance and get the rewards that wait for you on the other side.

sixstepsnumbers1. Awareness Is The First Step Of Change
Once you’re aware of how you sabotage yourself, you’re in a position to do something about it. (Read more about Step One)

2. What You Say is What You Get
Some of us defeat ourselves before we even get started by thinking thoughts of fear and failure. One way to make changes in your thinking and eventually your self-defeating behavior, is repetition of new ideas. (Read more about Step Two)

3. See it, Believe it, Make it Real
There will be many times in your growth process when you might want to quit. It’s at times like these that you need to focus on the end result you desire. A couple of tools you can use to help you focus on positive end results are: a future diary and a visualization board. (Read more about Step Three)

4. Success Breeds Success
Any little baby step you can take towards achieving your goal counts. If you keep taking steps in the right direction, you’ll eventually get to where you want to go. It’s important to acknowledge and reward success. If you only acknowledge your failure it will be easier to quit and to feel justified in doing so. (Read more about Step Four)

5. Stop Settling and Start Living
Your current beliefs are limited by your experience. Breaking out of your comfort zone means being willing to see all possibilities, not just those that support your existing belief system. If you keep doing the same things over and over you will always get the same results. Living fully means being willing to take risks. (Read more about Step Five)

6. Quitting is the Only Way to Fail
Sometimes change is slow but we are constantly changing whether we see it or not. Despite outside appearances, there is no such thing as an overnight success. There is no such thing as instant change. When you are trying to learn a new way of doing something, it takes persistence and patience. (Read more about Step Six)

Donate Your Weight – Seven Habits to Stop the Struggle

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

strawberriesDonate Your Weight is a program designed specifically for people who are sick of struggling with weight and eating. Many of us have lost and gained the same weight over and over again only to feel more frustrated and defeated with each cycle. Donate Your Weight is designed to help you break the cycle and live free from yo-yo dieting and food obsession for the rest of your life.

The name Donate Your Weight has multiple meanings. The program is based on Seven Stress-Free Slimming Strategies that allow you to create a lifestyle of weight maintenance. To help people stay motivated and on track with the Strategies, the program includes a Success Check-list and instructions on how to use a reward bank to you pay yourself real money for successfully achieveing the Strategies. Then, you can use that real money to buy something fun and rewarding for yourself or you can donate it to a good cause.

The word Donate is also more positive and long term than the word ‘Lose’. Nobody likes to lose anything and when we do lose something, we usually try to find it. Being lost or being a loser is never a positive, empowering feeling and we almost never congratulate someone for losing (except when it comes to weight).

An important component of the Donate Your Weight program is to change your negative, limiting mindsets about your body and your ability to succeed. The word donate is associated with letting go of something in a positive way. When you donate something, you do so by choice and you never expect to get it back.

Donate Your WeightThe philosophy behind Donate Your Weight is a cross between the behavior modification technique of rewarding desired behaviors and also something I’ll call the ‘Marathon Phenomenon’. You have thousands of people who will spend inordinate amounts of time training for a marathon and raising money for those in need. They are often motivated by either losing weight or getting in shape or they are motivated to raise funds, or both. The problem is, marathons are generally not healthy for the body long-term and certainly you don’t run marathons once a week or once a month. For most people. once it’s over, it’s over.

With the Donate Your Weight program, you can train your mind and body daily, you can help those in need and the Strategies are very healthy and safe to do. Most importantly, as you are doing the strategies and paying yourself real money, you are in the process of creating new habits that are the foundation for life-long weight maintenance.

Future blogs will outline each of the Seven Stress-Free Slimming Strategies one by one. Subscribe to the blog if you’re ready to stop the struggle with weight and eating. Each Strategy is proven way to release weight without dieting. The Strategies are actions you can take each day without any negative side-effects.
