Healing Anger with Ahman at Guidance Church in Los Angeles

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Ahman

This week on The Sheri and Erin Show we interviewed Ahman on the topic of healing fear. Fear is the culprit of a happy life. Healing your perception is the key to freedom.

Ahman is a teacher of A Course in Miracles and the Bible. Listening to his unique perspective on these two books is one way to achieve mental healing.

I am not exaggerating when I say that Erin, Ahman and I all experienced healing just from being a part of the conversation. I’ve deciding to re-listen so I can get even more clear on how to heal fear so I can live free.

From Sabotage to Success by Sheri ZampelliIf fear stands between you and your dreams or ideal relationships, you’ll want to listen to this show. Once you hear this show, you’ll probably want to catch Ahman live. He will be speaking at Guidance Church in Los Angeles on November 22. The topic is Healing Anger and the service starts at 10 a.m. I’ll be there and I hope you will too.

Forgiveness, Salvation and Doing Your Part

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

freedom_salvation_butterflyThe past few days, the A Course in Miracles discipline has been to apply the lesson for five minutes out of each hour. Thanks to my handy kitchen timer, I’ve been able to adhere to the plan pretty faithfully.

Lesson 100 of A Course in Miracles really had an impact on me. It says: “My part is essential to God’s plan for salvation.”

These words didn’t make much of an impression on me at first. In fact, sometimes I still feel a bit haughty admitting that I think I have something to do with God’s plan for salvation. My dysfunctional self-talk (aka the ‘ego’) tells me “who do you think you are to claim you’re a savior?”

That’s exactly why the Course creates rules like applying the lesson for five minutes of every hour so you can get past the ego’s thoughts and into the deeper meaning of this verse.

For one thing, five minutes might not seem like that long, but to the ego it’s eternity. The discipline of stopping all the busy-ness and putting all those “important” tasks on pause for five minutes every hour on the hour to affirm that you have a part in God’s plan is not all that easy. Yet the repetition of the lesson allows it to gradually sink in and work well,….miracles.

As the day progressed, these 9 words took on rich meaning and literally healed my heart and mind. No matter how you say it or what word you emphasize, the healing power is released one word and one thought at a time.

My part is essential to God’s plan for salvation. – Lesson 100 of A Course in Miracles

The more times I read this, the more it reminded me of having a part in a play. When one part is missing, the meaning or impact of the entire play is diminished. Each part is important and adds to the whole.

I realize I do have a part. That means I’m not insignificant (as my ego would want me to believe). I am needed. My part is essential. I have a function and duty to fulfill here. I’m not just here to take up space and leave a carbon footprint.

Not only am I significant, I have a part in God’s plan. This is much bigger and more important than having a part in my employer’s plan, my student’s plans, my husband’s plans or my mom’s plans. I have a part in God’s plan. That’s some serious business and not something I would want to take lightly.

Reading these words at this time of year, a time when we focus on rebirth and new life seems very significant to me and makes me want to take my part seriously. I’m thinking that if we each do our part by being accountable and forgiving (the Course says salvation and forgiveness are the same. Pg. 178, p. 9 v.7) we will help others to wake up as well. Therefore this seemingly small act truly does have the potential to lead to salvation and healing for all.

Your part is essential to God’s plan for salvation. Do you believe it? Do you take it seriously or do you wait for someone else to do it? For most of my life I have sat back and waited for someone else to save me. Today, I strive to do my part in salvation and to be present to each moment to the best of my ability. So far I’m finding out that it’s more than worth it to take the time to make this change.

Gabriel: the Unexpected Healer at the Grocery Store

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

It seems that since I made a firm decision to heal, the healers are coming out of the woodwork in many forms. There was the healing lesson I learned from my cat, Fenix and the reunification with my father after a lifetime of separation. Then there were the doves that decided to nest right near my bedroom window.

The latest healer came to me yesterday. He tracked me down at Ralph’s grocery store near the butter refrigerator and made sure that I received his message of healing.

It started off innocent enough. I was holding my roller skates and helmet in my hand as I picked up a few items at the store. A man came up and asked me a bit about rollerskating and then told me about how he’s lost a bunch of weight lately in preparation for his high school reunion.

I’ve been studying A Course in Miracles lately so I was friendly with the man, knowing that everyone is my brother and that everything happens for a reason. Perhaps the man sensed it because within moments he was telling me very personal information about his life. The told me about the crack cocaine, the homelessness and the speed balls. He told me about the drug rehab, his run-ins with the police and his near-death experience. He told me about his six years of sobriety and the people he’s connected with in his 12-step meetings.

Hay House, Inc.

He put down his bananas and milk so he could gesture freely and I watched him with wonder. He was not the least bit scary or threatening, he was clearly happy and amazingly healthy based on what he’s been through.

Part of my wonder was, why me? Why was he telling me, a complete stranger all of these intimate details of his life? How did he know I would listen and understand his story? Why is it that many of my own drug and alcohol students assume I don’t know a thing about what it feels like to be an addict whereas this stranger acted as if I was a fellow traveler. He never once explained what an 8-ball was and he didn’t edit himself when he talked about his “pipe” or the “dopeman”. He didn’t even hold back his street language. It’s like he knew that I knew what he was talking about. And I do. But I didn’t interupt him to tell him so. I just kept listening.

It was then that he told me about a healing journey he took on the Amtrack to see his family in San Diego. He told me about the many years that he had disappeared from their lives because of drugs and incarceration and the pain it caused. Then, he ended with his take home message. When he did, I knew exactly why he chose me as the person to spill the beans to and I knew why I needed to hear him out to the end. In so many words he said, “you know, making amends isn’t about getting right with the dopeman or any of that stuff, it’s about getting reconnected with the people who matter, it’s about making it right with your family.”

I said out loud, as if talking to God, “I get it”. Then I told the man, “thank you”. It was only when he picked up his bananas and milk and began to walk away that he asked my name and then after shaking my hand he said, “my name is Gabriel.” I said, “I get it” again, this time to myself and with an inner smile of awe and wonder, I walked away, trying to remember why I came to the store in the first place and I realized that the butter and the bread were only a cover-up for a much more important mission; to remember once again to forgive, the only true path to healing.

Break Habits with A Course in Miracles

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Breaking habits begins in the mind and A Course in Miracles will help you release the perceptions that keep you stuck. This year I am applying the daily lessons to my life for the second time around. The healing of perception and the freedom I feel is unparalleled to anything I’ve experienced in a long time.

I am so jazzed about A Course in Miracles that I want to share it with others. So, I did a little video of me reading Lesson #60. One of the beautiful things about A Course in Miracles is how it condenses a large amount of healing information into one sentence.

Watch the video here and if you like it, please visit my YouTube Channel and post your rating and comments you can also subscribe to the channel so you can get my next recording automatically.

By the way, as a side note, Marianne Williamson was hosting daily shows based on A Course in Miracles on Oprah and Friends on XM Radio. Recently, XM and Sirius merged and they got rid of some of their programming, including punk rock. I’m not sure if this is the reason Marianne Williamson is no longer on XM but I do know that her shows were powerful and I think it’s important to keep A Course in Miracles out there for public consumption. It’s a life-transforming Course. Check it out.

In the video I mention the Healing Fear Yahoo! Group with me and Rev. Ahman. This is for you if you want to join with others as you follow the spiritual principles of A Course in Miracles in your life.
