Addiction: A Spiritual Perspective

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Drugs don’t make people powerless but powerless people become addicts. When you have no power you look to “things”/ways to get that power. If you can’t/don’t get it from yourself, you will try to get it elsewhere.

Whatever thing you “use” (drugs, food, shopping, sex, etc.) you will never get “enough.” You can use and use and use and you will never get power because “things” are not the power Source. In fact, you will lose power because you are giving it away to a false God. God/Infinite Intelligence is the Source.

You can never get enough of what you don’t want. If I want love but I look to food to fill me up, I cannot eat enough to get full. No amount of food will give me the love I want so I just eat and eat and eat but I never get full because food isn’t what I’m hungry for to begin with.

This is not about religion. Some people turn their power over to religion and religious leaders and get into the same troubles of any other powerless addict. This is about claiming YOUR power, the power you were born with. If you are compulsive with food, drugs, shopping or anything else you must stop looking outside yourself for the answer and stand in your power if you ever hope to be completely free.

Making Prosperity Thinking a Habit

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

I’ll admit. My lifelong habit has been to worry about money. I grew up on the dole. My mom was mostly a single parent and even when she was married, we didn’t have much money. I was the oldest and had many responsibilities. One day, I was given a twenty dollar bill to go to the store and I lost it before I was able to make the necessary purchases. Twenty dollars was a lot of money in the 70’s and going home to face the music on this one was not fun at all.

Some how I took all this to mean that worry was necessary and that there is never enough. I also remember getting the distinct message that money is evil and having it made you evil (maybe that’s why I decided to lose it. I mean seriously, who wants to be evil? Not me!)

We all have our money stories and in this economy, I imagine some of us are facing money demons we never even knew we had. I for one am face to face with it more than ever before. Since my past ways of dealing with money (ignoring it, avoiding it, losing it, etc.) clearly haven’t worked for me, I decided to join with thousands of other people to play the Prosperity Game.

It’s actually a lot of fun to spend money and to have extra money every day. The game is free to play. You can play daily or as often as you want. Basically, once you log in you are presented with a check from the Universe. Everyday the check gets bigger and you get to spend it on anything you want. There is a space for you to write about what you spent it on and how it felt. The goal is to have fun and play. Who wouldn’t benefit from that?
